Sophie Turner for 1883 Magazine

Sophie Turner / 1883 Magazine
photography / Alena Jascanka
fashion / Chad Burton
hair / John Mullan
makeup / Emma White Turle
fashion assistants / Rudy Betty & Molly Peet

Love Game of Thrones? ME TOO! So I was way psyched to shoot Sophie Turner (aka Sansa Stark) for the June 2013 issue of 1883 Magazine. She was such a lovely kid (only like 17!) and loved all the looks I had for her. And who knew she isn't naturally a ginger but actually blonde? It was the first time working with Alena Jascanka whose passion for her work was totally contagious.  I've included a few shots that didn't make the printed issue (in stores now).  All in all a great day at the St. Martins Lane Hotel :)

chadchad of the day 7.4

Chad Burton

navy jumpsuit & black belt / Issey Miyake Men
blue sunglasses / Resurrection
blue clutch / Louis Vuitton
Chad Burton_2
This was the outfit I wore to day 2 of London Collections: Men, and definitely my favorite.  I'm a sucker for jumpsuits and this pleated navy number was simply perfection.  It's from the Issey Miyake Men FW12 collection and my fashion editor used it earlier in the week in one of our menswear editorials for the next issue of 1883 Magazine.  Big shout out to Jean-Philippe from Issey Miyake for letting me wear it!

These photos were taken by Miyelle Karmi, a street style photographer whose website me/ELLE/you you must check out.   I accessorized the look with my bright blue clutch and sunglasses to make the tonal blue seen in the cuffs a little more obvious. Also huge thanks to Juyoung Lee, the designer from Korean label Resurrection, for giving me the sunglasses.

hannah murray: behind the scenes

IMG_3055
I thought I'd share a selection of behind the scenes snaps I took of actress Hannah Murray for the shoot @lindsayrobbo and I styled a few weeks back for 1883 Magazine's online presence, 1883 Digital. Check out the official photos by Nicholas Kay and the interview that goes along with them HERE.

Hannah Murray for 1883 Digital

Photobucket
Last week my colleague Lindsay Robertson and I styled up and coming actress Hannah Murray for a feature interview on 1883 Digital, photographed by Nicholas Kay.  She got her start on popular UK drama Skins, recently debuted in the second season of Game of Thrones and also has a roll in Tim Burton's new flick Dark Shadows.  Click HERE to check out the interview.

I went hella bright for London Fashion Week day 4 as it was a blue skies kinda afternoon and I wanted to put myself in a spring sort of mood.  Korean label Human Potential sent me this bold trench coat a few months ago as a gift and fashion week was the first time the weather felt right to wear it.  The neutral almost burnt looking pattern has pops of aqua and purple and I wanted to bring those colors out by color blocking the rest of my outfit - yellow shirt, aqua trousers, blue clutch, orange socks, maroon shoes.  It's a lot but I'm not afraid to experiment with color.

Below is another one of the daily videos I made for 1883 Magazine's Fashion Insider during the week.  This time we focused on the confidence and craziness that makes up London's street fashion scene, which is louder and prouder than most other cities in the world.

**X's and O's to London Fashion by Paul and Rachel Phipps for some of the photographs!

black jacket with zips / Asger Juel Larsen
grey harem trousers / Issey Miyake
brown sunglasses / Cutler and Gross
black clutch / vintage
black boots / Aldo
boots chains / vintage

My outfit for day 2 of London Fashion Week this season was again mostly lent to me by some amazing PR agencies & designers while I did some filming for 1883 Magazine.  Big thanks again to Cutler and Gross for the sunglasses and to Blow Pr for the AJL jacket - I love the zips and layers and leather detailing and it was the perfect match for these baggy grey trousers from Issey Miyake.  Check out some backstage shots from the Asger Juel Larsen FW12 show HERE.

On Day 2 we were having a few technical difficulties with focusing and I said 'um' like 75 times I swear in that 2 minute video - I definitely got a lot more comfortable later in the week!  Click on the links for backstage pictures of the shows I talked about including Elisa Palomino who had the models in bright pink & purple hair and the Avatar meets Last of the Mohicans styling that went into the Florian Jayet show.

Here's a close up of the western style buckles I wore over my boots - they are meant for cowboy boots but look great over a simple ankle boot or a pair of Doc's.
ps. Thanks to Toni Tran from fashitects.blogspot.com for the first two photographs!

One trend I've noticed in the FW12 menswear shows coming from Milan & Paris is the sheer volume of capes and poncho's coming down the runway.  From Dior Homme & Calvin Klein Collection to Mugler & Yohji Yamamoto, menswear designers are pushing the image of the caped crusader (though I tend to see them more as the bad guy than the hero out to save the day - an idea that is perfectly outlined in this article entitled 'Winter Villains' written for 1883 Digital).

So of course I wanted to try rocking the super villain look myself. I've worn capes before and have had this double breasted number from Japanese label Cabane de Zucca for a few seasons now, but it's been awhile since I dug it out of the back of my closet.  To add to the bad guy mood I styled it with this Jesus crucifix body chain that Burger bought from a jewelry stall at the Sunday Up Market on Brick Lane along with these super high, super cool riding boots.  They were a gift from Korean designer DUYOUNG JUNG after I walked in his VanHart Homme collection during Seoul Fashion Week FW11.

1883 Magazine promo with Holliday Grainger

Another stunning promo video for the upcoming 4th issue of 1883 Magazine, this time starring the porcelain skinned actress Holliday Grainger best known for her role in Showtimes the Borgias and also from the recent adaptation of Jane Eyre.

I immediately fell in love with the location when we shot the cover. It felt as though you were transported to some exotic location when in fact it was just a beautifully curated home in London.  Again styled by 1883's fashion editor Filippo Giuliani, the video showcases the lovely clothes worn by Holliday from designers including Jil Sander, Margiela and Issey Miyake.  Issue 4 will be released the first week of February so keep your eyes open for it!
