Swim Fan's for Client Magazine

Client Magazine / July 2013
This is a men's swimwear story I styled for Client Magazine a few months back with one of my favorite photographers to work with in London, Miss Alexandra Leese. John and Gina, on hair and makeup respectively, are also a dream to work with. I really wanted to mix in some Balenciaga SS13 style stacked gold rings plus loads of earrings with the swimwear to give it a bit more of a lux vibe.  Fave weird moment of the shoot?  When Gina was using a paint brush to dab oil onto Chris's armpits in the above shot - ha!

I finally made it out of London for a weekend away in small town England at a place called Lewes.  It feels like I've been stuck in zone 1 for an eternity - not that it's so bad in central London, but it's nice to breathe some country air and not have to deal with constant crowds.
IMG_0046
Burger and I went to the quaint little village of Lewes after finding a deal on Groupon (side note: never buy a Groupon hotel getaway, you'll always end up disappointed).  Lots of churches, castles and tiny little shops and streets and even a Garland Day procession through the streets of girls with flowers in their hair dancing with marching bands and guys wearing lots of bells.  I thought it would be much warmer than it actually was, so I ended up wearing this mix & match polka dot outfit for only about 30 minutes total.  Boo! But I'm sure I'll find another occasion for this polka dot threesome.
IMG_0045
So any thoughts on polka dots for guys?  Some people say they are feminine but I think a guy can totally pull them off.  I think it's more of the connections you make with polka dots like itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie yellow bikinis or those little dresses Zoe Deschanel always wears rather than the polka dots themselves.

If a Batman villain can rock polka dots, then why can't I?  :)

One trend I've noticed in the FW12 menswear shows coming from Milan & Paris is the sheer volume of capes and poncho's coming down the runway.  From Dior Homme & Calvin Klein Collection to Mugler & Yohji Yamamoto, menswear designers are pushing the image of the caped crusader (though I tend to see them more as the bad guy than the hero out to save the day - an idea that is perfectly outlined in this article entitled 'Winter Villains' written for 1883 Digital).
IMG_0017
So of course I wanted to try rocking the super villain look myself. I've worn capes before and have had this double breasted number from Japanese label Cabane de Zucca for a few seasons now, but it's been awhile since I dug it out of the back of my closet.  To add to the bad guy mood I styled it with this Jesus crucifix body chain that Burger bought from a jewelry stall at the Sunday Up Market on Brick Lane along with these super high, super cool riding boots.  They were a gift from Korean designer DUYOUNG JUNG after I walked in his VanHart Homme collection during Seoul Fashion Week FW11.

chadchad of the day 6.2

chadchad
black sheer panel jumper / ASOS
black drop crotch shorts / ASOS
grey leggings / no brand
black boots / Aldo
black & silver boot chains / vintage
black sunglasses / Spitfire
chess piece necklace / Burger & Fries
crucifix rings / ASOS (black) & Topman (silver)
IMG_0068
I dug deep through Burger's wardrobe for today's outfit of the day, a lot of which is actually from ASOS. The sheer paneling is a nice touch for the sweater and the extra baggy shorts make for an interesting silhouette.  I mixed black, white and silver accessories to keep it all from being too black, including the White Queen chess piece necklace that I made for our Burger & Fries boutique on ASOS Marketplace.

My favorite part of this outfit are these vintage leather and silver boot chains that I gave Burger for Christmas and wore over my black ankle boots from Aldo, which could really use a good polishing.  They are meant to be worn over cowboy boots but I like the contrast with a more modern boot.

Burger and I went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park on Sunday night and he was definitely dressed warm for the occasion.  He got a few comments about how 'Russian' he looked because of the big fur hat (I was also wearing my matching hat) along with his long jacket that he bought at a vintage store on Brick Lane, but Russians definitely know how to dress for the cold so it makes sense.

I love how he wore the silver western style collar tips with the thick gold chain - after the fur hat and the long jacket they are the first things you see.  Then you notice the almost hidden double swallow brooch and they all clash so well together - a perfect mixture of cowboy meets gangster meets grandma.

want 0.1

Screen shot 2011-08-09 at 6.24.28 PM
I've decided to start writing a new feature on thexoxokids all about my fashion wants. A wish list if you will. Stuff that if I had the disposable money to do so, I would buy and then feature in 'chadchad of the day' outfits.

Screen shot 2011-08-09 at 6.24.45 PM
My first such want are these impeccable jackets by ADRIEN SAUVAGE, a designer from Ghana who's brand A.SAUVAGE was recently picked up by Harrod's department store in London. The first is a digital houndstooth, very bold, very fun, very now and the second is a native patterned tuxedo jacket made from kente, a fabric indigenous to Ghana. Read more about how he photographed his friends and family wearing his recent collection during his first trip home to Ghana in 11 years in this GQ article.

My next want is this neon yellow shirt from Kokon to Zai's AW 2011 collection, and perhaps the platform shoes as well.  I've been featuring KTZ a lot recently, both in outfits of the day and catching them in street fashion pics.  I love the twist on the Palestinian keffiyeh scarf which the pattern is based on which has been so overused as a hipster accessory in the past.  Never thought I would promote that pattern but KTZ did an amazing job of reinterpreting it.

Finally are these lovely woven leather shoes from H By Hudson Origen which can be found on ASOS.  They remind me of the mesh slip on shoes my mom used to buy me every summer growing up from the now defunct Canadian store SAAN, but of much better quality of course.  They would look great with a pair of brightly colored shorts with the hems rolled up and a crisp patterned shirt buttoned all the way to the top.  Keep away from the beach though, mesh shoes and sand never mix.

Burger and I took advantage of the sunshine and took a stroll along the Thames River the other day. It only took 15 minutes to bus to Big Ben from my flat in Fitzrovia - I love my location! I had never been right up close to Big Ben before and didn't realize how beautiful it is, so gold along some of the trim, my photos don't do it justice.

We walked across the bridge over to the South Bank near where the Millenium Wheel aka the London Eye is located. Burger wore the perfect summer outfit, sort of a Where's Waldo/sailor boy mix complete with a drop anchor brooch that says 'French Navy' which he fastened into a necklace. His Jeremy Scott for Swatch watch is so fun and childlike and I love how vintage looking the sandals by ASOS are.
