chadchad of the day 6.8

Scan-120322-0002
Quite the nice surprise reading the Metro Lifestyle section on the tube to work this morning and seeing one of my fashion week outfits on display for 4 million readers to see.  Also feeling very good about the fact I'm alongside such dapper company including menswear designers like Patrick Grant from E.Tautz and David friggin' Gandy himself!  Big thanks to Paul Hartnett for the photos - he was such a nice and talented gentleman to get to talk to during fashion week.

Also thanks to T.Lipop & Cutler and Gross for lending samples for me to wear.  For this outfit I decided to play with tones using blue accessories on T.Lipop's very sharp (and buttonless!) blue suit.  I found the braided belt at a street stall in Myeongdong in Seoul and the dark blue leather gloves at a street stall in Covent Garden.

I went hella bright for London Fashion Week day 4 as it was a blue skies kinda afternoon and I wanted to put myself in a spring sort of mood.  Korean label Human Potential sent me this bold trench coat a few months ago as a gift and fashion week was the first time the weather felt right to wear it.  The neutral almost burnt looking pattern has pops of aqua and purple and I wanted to bring those colors out by color blocking the rest of my outfit - yellow shirt, aqua trousers, blue clutch, orange socks, maroon shoes.  It's a lot but I'm not afraid to experiment with color.

Below is another one of the daily videos I made for 1883 Magazine's Fashion Insider during the week.  This time we focused on the confidence and craziness that makes up London's street fashion scene, which is louder and prouder than most other cities in the world.

**X's and O's to London Fashion by Paul and Rachel Phipps for some of the photographs!

My outfit for day 2 of London Fashion Week this season was again mostly lent to me by some amazing PR agencies & designers while I did some filming for 1883 Magazine.  Big thanks again to Cutler and Gross for the sunglasses and to Blow Pr for the AJL jacket - I love the zips and layers and leather detailing and it was the perfect match for these baggy grey trousers from Issey Miyake.  Check out some backstage shots from the Asger Juel Larsen FW12 show HERE.

On Day 2 we were having a few technical difficulties with focusing and I said 'um' like 75 times I swear in that 2 minute video - I definitely got a lot more comfortable later in the week!  Click on the links for backstage pictures of the shows I talked about including Elisa Palomino who had the models in bright pink & purple hair and the Avatar meets Last of the Mohicans styling that went into the Florian Jayet show.

Here's a close up of the western style buckles I wore over my boots - they are meant for cowboy boots but look great over a simple ankle boot or a pair of Doc's.
ps. Thanks to Toni Tran from fashitects.blogspot.com for the first two photographs!

Here is my outfit for day 5 of London Fashion Week.  Shows I saw that day included Holly Fulton's very pink & turquoise collection and the hippie/backpacker/yoga/90's raver/glitter-bomb of a runway that Ashish put together.  My Fashion Insider video coverage above for 1883 Magazine was unfortunately edited poorly by the filmmaker who confused the two shows, but we're trying to get in touch with him to sort that out!

I grabbed this image from WGSN's tumblr page, in a post highlighting grey winter tones seen on men in the street during fashion week.  Huge thanks to Dior, Paul & Joe and again Cutler and Gross for the lending the samples for me to wear.  It was one of the chillier days of fashion week so I made sure to dress warmly & winter appropriately with the layered gloves and the Nordic print tie.

This was the outfit I wore to Menswear day at London Fashion Week, which happened to be the last day of the week. BLOW PR was kind enough to lend some T.Lipop samples so huge thanks to them. I knew that this cream jacket and shorts combo was going to be a winner so I saved it for the final day of the week. I paired it with a crisp white shirt and wore the shorts over some basic and very comfortable long underwear from H&M. I actually ran into Tom from T.Lipop backstage later in the day and his entire team was so psyched to see me rocking his jacket.

Above is my coverage of Menswear day for 1883 Magazine - the final of a 6 part series. It took us a while to get going properly on this project and we had a few young filmmakers back out due to scheduling conflict, however in the end we got some decent footage. In this video I talked about the MAN show featuring Shaun Samson, Agi & Sam and Astrid Anderson as well as the Topman Design show, all of which were at the Royal Opera House.

To accessorize this look I went for a vintage bolo tie that I thrifted in Canada which features a gold cowboy's saddle in a silver setting. I also wore one of the pairs of sunglasses that were lent to me by Cutler and Gross for filming - I love them so much I don't want to give them back!

Also thanks to styloko.com and Toni Tran from Fashitects.blogspot.com for the images!

Pantone

Screen shot 2012-02-13 at 5.16.38 PM
I wanted to share a larger preview of the menswear editorial called 'Pantone' that I styled for 1883 Digital. Photographer BEGUM YETIS translated my vision perfectly and I was really proud to combine up and coming as well as established menswear labels I love like Lou Dalton, Agi & Sam, The Kooples, Ermenegildo Zegna, Paul Bench, etc. with amazing accessories from Jimmy Choo, Pringle of Scotland, Burger & Fries and Cutler and Gross.

Also a big thanks to the team for making the shoot happen:
fashion assistant / Charlotte Dennis
hair / Meggie Cousland using Bumble & Bumble
makeup / Danielle Kahalani using Shiseido Men
models / James Cooper @ Premier, Jo Milnes @ Storm

1883 Magazine issue 4

covers
Issue 4 of 1883 Magazine is finally out on newsstands in the UK and to celebrate it's release I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite pages.  The TOM HIDDLESTON cover is strong and bold and totally BAM with that Versace jacket, but if I had to choose I would say the second cover with 'The Borgias' actress HOLLIDAY GRAINGER is my favorite.  There's something just so timelessly glamourous about her porcelain skin and ruby red lips with the pink scallop necked Valentino dress, the crystal Cartier earrings and that perfectly tropical handprinted wallpaper in the background (complete with flamingos!)
For those of you overseas itching to get your copy, order it online HERE.
IMG_0071
Next is this article about young actress ELLA PURNELL.  The image is so dreamlike and makes her look much more mature than her fifteen years. The digital print on this dress by Soojin Lee is also a lovely mix of graphic shapes and cartoonish nature.
IMG_0074
I think this spread of Holliday is absolutely adorable and shows the quirky, fun side we saw of her that day perfectly.  You can see more of the handprinted wallpaper in the dining room of the home we rented for the shoot on the left, which is echoed on the right in the tropical print of the Stella McCartney jacket that our fashion editor FILIPPO GIULIANI had her wear. Also check out some behind the scenes pictures of our shoot with Holliday.
IMG_0076
The cover story for Tom was the first photo shoot I assisted on only a few weeks after I started working at 1883.  We rented this amazing location called The Roost in Dalston and this was also the first time I met KRISTIN VICARI, who shot both our cover stories.  The composition of this double page spread is great - I love the slight tilt of the camera and how the chandelier and the mounted goats head just peek in at the sides.  The Dolce & Gabbana mesh vest top that Tom is rocking is also pretty rad.
IMG_0077
I am most proud of the page on the right since it's the first printed page for 1883 that I styled solo.  It's for an online editorial I shot called 'Pantone' with this page serving as a sort of advertisement/link to our fashion content on 1883 Digital.  Turkish photographer BEGUM YETIS did an amazing job bringing my idea into fruition and I especially loved  model JAMES COOPER's ginger hair with all this pink.  (jacket by Paul & Joe, jumpsuit by Orschel-Read, sunglasses by Cutler and Gross).
IMG_0078
I'm also pretty psyched about this editorial called 'No Man's Land' which myself and HOLLY OUNSTEAD assisted on, shot by fellow Canadians and a very talented couple named SATY+PRATHA.  The silver triangle necklace that model PAT PIETRZAK wears over a Dior Homme jacket is from our Burger & Fries collection on ASOS Marketplace.  Yay!
IMG_0081
Another menswear editorial that I got to assist on along with LINDSAY ROBERTSON is this one called 'Kingdom Comedown', shot by HAYLEY LOUISA BROWN.  We struggled getting this one just right in terms of layout and design but I'm pleased with the outcome.  Plus Edmund and Val were very natural and handsome in front of the camera.
IMG_0082
Finally is the spread for the preview of Vauxhall Fashion Scout AW12 in time for London Fashion Week which we shot again with Kristin Vicari at the Sanderson.  4 models, 15 looks and some very cool props made for a very successful day.  A few of these images are also featured on vogue.co.uk with more going up on vogue.fr and vogue.it within the next week.  I just saw a sneak preview of the video that YEAST LONDON shot of the girls which will be shown on loop in the entrance of VFS - it's totally going to knock your socks off and I can't wait to share it with you.
