Burger and I went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park on Sunday night and he was definitely dressed warm for the occasion.  He got a few comments about how 'Russian' he looked because of the big fur hat (I was also wearing my matching hat) along with his long jacket that he bought at a vintage store on Brick Lane, but Russians definitely know how to dress for the cold so it makes sense.

I love how he wore the silver western style collar tips with the thick gold chain - after the fur hat and the long jacket they are the first things you see.  Then you notice the almost hidden double swallow brooch and they all clash so well together - a perfect mixture of cowboy meets gangster meets grandma.

It's been a while since I posted one of Burger's outfits up on here, my bad. It's a total shame too since Burger's wardrobe & self styling are so spot on amazing every day of the week. I've actually been really slacking on street fashion shots in general since after fashion week in September. Double bad. However, I have been focusing more on introducing designers and brands that I love from around the world so I hope that makes up for it.  But enough of that...

I've been trying to update our Burger & Fries boutique on ASOS as much as possible by reforming great vintage finds as soon as I find them, like the shirt and vest that Burger is wearing. I found the leather vest, which was originally a biker jacket with a white paint stain on the sleeve, at Portobello market near my job. Thanks to the stain I got it for a decent price (and by decent I mean decent in London vintage terms, which is very hard to get cheap) then took it home, roughly cut off the sleeves and added the cone shaped studs. I took the collar off another leather jacket that had a broken zipper, and added that to the oversized denim shirt. Worn together they look twice as cool, especially styled with the studded hat.

I styled a test shoot last week in the Secret Garden at Hamstead with my friend David Sheldrick, a kickass young photographer that I met and worked with in Seoul who has moved back to London and a lovely model named Loli that we found on Model Mayhem.  It was the last hot day of the Indian summer we were having in London and the surroundings were perfection.  Many of the accessories were handmade by myself and all of the lovely dresses & jumpsuits were designed by my friend Mehrdad Kamali.

por-cima-do-meu-corpo

studded leather biker jacket / reformed vintage by Burger & Fries
graphic tank top / Cheap Monday
galaxy print jodhpurs / no brand
shoes / Converse
crucifix x5 necklace / Burger & Fries

I styled todays outfit of the day around this cropped leather biker jacket that I found in a vintage shop on Brick Lane. I reformed it by adding 12 cone shaped studs on the front of each shoulder. With all this senseless violence & rioting going on in London, a guy's gotta try to look tough, am I right?

studded leather vintage biker jacket£69.99

I paired it with Burger's Cheap Monday tank top that says 'Por cima do meu corpo defunto' which translates to 'over my dead body'. Love that.  And very à propos at the moment as a lot of people in London are ready to stand up & protect their city from hooligans.
I also wore my amazing galaxy print drop crotch pants from Korea that I've featured before. (total rip off of the same print used by Scottish designer CHRISTOPHER KANE).

crucifix x5 necklace£29.99

I also wore a necklace from our Burger &Fries collection on ASOS Marketplace. I created this one using 5 metal crucifix pendants and a bit of heavy black chain. Very rock & religion chic.
STAY SAFE LONDON!

We found this amazing lego block display outside of a shop called DOM in Amsterdam and it immediately go out attention. Especially Burger's since he is such a toy fanatic. Inside the all black store were designer & kitsch housewares, accessories & knick-knacks.

Burger picked up the bright orange umbrella (Dutch cheering color!) at Centraal Station when we arrived as the weather was way gloomy. It adds a bit of whimsy & pop color to his otherwise dark outfit. I gave him the chess piece chain (I have a matching one in white) which I found at A-Land in Seoul and extended the original black chain by adding a few inches of gold chain to it.

If you ever find yourself in Amsterdam and want a quality magazine & bookshop,
Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum is the place to go. They have a huge selection of fashion publications, design books & not-so-touristy postcards and its a great spot for browsing & people watching.

asos market!

Reformed 'I Heart London' T-Shirt

Burger and I have started selling a few items on a UK online site called ASOS Market - think Etsy meets Lookbook.nu. We've already individually sold a few items, just old tee's & cardigans we wanted to get rid of and if we sell enough, we plan on setting up our own boutique.

Boutiques are rad because you can name & create a logo for your shop and you also get your own web address so I can market it from my blog and people can look specifically for items we are selling. We'll keep you posted on that & if it happens it will definitely include reformed vintage like I was selling at the Bling Night Flea Market at Platoon in Seoul along with a lot of handmade accessories made by both Burger & myself. But for now check out a few of the goods we have for sale & click on the links to check out pricing.

chadchad of the day 3.0

IMG_0068
denim & mesh jacket / reformed vintage Levi's
white graphic tee / Proudrace
silver fingernail necklace / Cheap Monday
black denim / no brand
black sunglasses / Resurrection
black shoes / Converse
black fanny pack / vintage

Wow, this is my 30th 'chadchad of the day'! I'm having so much fun doing these & am excited about continuing them in the future. It might be a challenge to make it happen while on hiatus in Canada for a month since I'll have a limited wardrobe & there's like 2 feet of snow, but perhaps that will just challenge me to thrift better & be more creative with my outfits. Maybe I'll even do a mini version with my kid brother & sister!

IMG_0081
Anyway, for today's outfit I wanted to feature one of the denim jackets I reformed using bleach & mesh. I made about 6 similar ones, some substituting lace instead of mesh, to sell at the flea market at Bar Exit this afternoon.

IMG_0004
This is how I found the jacket while thrifting at Dongmyo market which cost W5,000 ($5US). First I ripped sections out of the jacket, two on the upper front and two panels on the back sides, and left the frayed edges.

IMG_0006
IMG_0062IMG_0063
Then I soaked the jacket in a bleach water mixture, rinsed it in a water bath & washed it in the washing machine. Be careful if you try to do this, those bleach fumes are hella toxic. I wore swimming goggles, a face mask & rubber gloves when in the bathroom and I still felt a bit woozy. Also make sure the room you do it in can be ventilated well with an open window.

IMG_0060 IMG_0061
Finally I added mesh panels using my roommates sewing machine. I am way happy with the result. It looks great worn with bright colors as well because you can see the color through the mesh. I also want to be a little scandalous one day & try it out with nothing underneath to show my skin.

The tee shirt was handprinted especially for me by a brand called Proudrace in Manilla. Click HERE to see the blog I wrote about them.  I picked up the Cheap Monday fingernail necklace at a shop called Flow on Garosugil / 가로수길 after sporting it in a fashion challenge on an episode of 'Style Magazine' for OnStyle with my friends Cory, Coco & David.  Click HERE for that post.
