Glen Check '84'

LOVE LOVE this newly released video by Glen Check from Korea for his song '84'.  I want to move into this triangle, unicorn galaxy land and hear vintage beats all day long.  Also the blonde in the video is my 친안 친구 (aka. good friend) Cory who looks so badass, especially with diamond lights shining out of her eyes.  Love it, share it and make it go viral y'all!

MBC Korean Cultural Festival

IMG_0044
A K-pop storm is brewing across the other side of the globe and is poised to unleash it’s sugary, dance-infused goodness onto the western world. South Korea has been curating an army of overstyled and plastic-faced girl and boy bands with obnoxious names like B3AST, f(x), SHINee, U-KISS and MBLAQ in the hopes of cross-over success and Saturday night saw one of their first UK invasions in the form of a ‘Korean Cultural Festival’ with headliners EXO-K (above) at the Indigo O2.

K-Pop by 'The Slink'

Library - 4158
Some of my friends recently modeled in a K-Pop inspired shoot for theslink.com which was styled with a few Burger & Fries accessories. So 'Fantastic Baby' that it makes me want to listen to Big Bang and 2NE1 on repeat!

chadchad of the day 5.6

IMG_0264

leather biker jacket / Human Potential
nordic print shorts / Custard Yellow
black leggings / American Apparel
leather fanny pack / vintage
leather leopard print hat / OBEY

Huge HUGE Thanks to Rebecca (YK) Kim, the designer of Korean brand Human Potential, for sending me this super cool 2-stars biker jacket last week.  I was so psyched to open the surprise package and find this along with a few other goodies that I'll be featuring in outfits of the day in the near future.

I shot this photo today at the cover shoot for 1883 Magazine which we shot on location in the most amazing apartment in Earl's Court.  The shoot had a very vintage Hollywood feel with a very pretty (and top secret!) actress wearing everything from Tom Ford to Margiela to Valentino. The decor was very Egyptian and this room featured block printed wallpaper that I fell in love with.  It sort of clashes with the jacket but I just had to show it.  I'll try to post a few backstage images once the issue comes out the end of January.

The jacket is from HUPOT's spring/summer 2011 collection (I've blogged before about the leaf print monkey pants worn in the picture above HERE) and is a favorite among many K-pop stars in Seoul (see below).  I'm rocking the fanny pack which I use as my styling kit on photo shoots along with Burger's very cool leather hat with silver leopard print brim.

want 0.9: human potential

How cool is this grey & black fur sweater named the 'Invader Gorilla Sweater' by Korean brand Human Potential? I would be so warm and fuzzy all winter long, especially if I had the matching fur hat. HUPOT, as the brand is commonly known in Seoul, was created by Korean designers Dowon Kim & YK Rebekah Kim and is a staple among streetwear fans in Korea not to mention a favorite of K-pop girl group 2NE1. Take a look at some of my favorite looks from their FW11 collection entitled Alien Puppeteers.

chadchad of the day 5.1

haptic
leather biker jacket / vintage
leopard print tank top / Topman
hot pink jesus necklace / Burger & Fries
galaxy print trousers / no brand

For Day 4 of London Fashion Week, when I was photographing backstage at the Paul Bench SS12 show, I decided to do a tribute of sorts to the over styling ways of K-pop.  I'm starting to miss all the boy & girl bands of Korea these days now that I'm in London and not hearing M-BLAQ, miss A, SHINee and Girls Generation blasting in every store, bus and restaurant. The only things my outfit is missing for the full K-pop experience is excessive stud detailing on my jacket, a face full of BB cream & eye liner and a whole lot of hair product.  (ps. thanks to Anna from hapticblog.blogspot.com for the photo!)

2NE1 and G-dragon & T.O.P. are obvious choices for over-styling amazingness, but I wanted to include a few other boy & girl groups that people outside of Korea may not be familiar with.

Super+Junior+MR+Simple
Super-sized boy band Super Junior, who fluctuate in size from 8 to 13 members depending on who is currently drafted by the army or filming a movie/drama at the moment, are definitely over styled with mixed results. I can appreciate the excess & sugar pop colors of the images above, but there's almost nothing good about their outfits in the video below.  But that said, skip the boring 30 second intro, close your eyes and enjoy the 'bwara Mr. Simple, Simple, geudaeneun geudaeneun geudaero meotjyeo' cheesiness that is K-pop.

There's something very ABBA or Ace of Base about this Hot Summer song by f(x), another fun K-pop girl group. I especially love the obviously tom-boyish Amber and her little English rap around 2/3rds of the way in. And a pink army tank? Amazing.

I'm loving that this video by D-NA was shot in one of my old Seoul haunts, Club Mansion in Hongdae, where my friend Sarah used to throw some crazy fun White Noize parties and where I saw DJ's like Kingdom play.  But the very best thing about K-pop? When they so obviously butcher English words with their Korean pronunciations, even when the title of the song is 'Love Parade'. Or should i say 'Lub-a Palade'?
