r16 Korea 2011 World B-boy Master Championship this weekend!
For more information, click HERE.
R-16 Korea World B-Boy Masters Championship — sponsored by Korea Tourism Organization—will take place this year on July 2nd and 3rd at the Seoul Olympic Hall of Olympic Park.
Going into its fifth year, R-16 B-Boy World Championship is considered one of the top five most revered b-boy tournaments in the world. Featuring b-boys from different parts of the globe carefully selected through regional preliminaries, and international rankings, it’s a World Cup for b-boys designed to determine the best of the best.
More than 200 b-boys from 16 different nations will participate at this year’s R-16 Korea. Due to the event’s positive feedback from previous years, international preliminaries were held from April 1st to the end of June in nine different countries including Japan, China, Russia, Vietnam and Kazakhstan.
While participants from Korea were determined in a regional competition on June 4th, European and American contestants were invited by their standings in world rankings, and will contend with international preliminary winners to compete in the finals.
The first day (July 2nd) will feature solo competitions of poppers, lockers, and b-boys, along with a guest showcase by former-2PM-leader Jay Park and his b-boy crew Art of Movement.
On the second day (July 3rd) the official b-boy group competitions kick off, followed by a special performance by the official spokesperson of R-16, hip-hop artist Tiger JK, singer/songwriter Yoonmirae, and their project group Sunzoo.
During the R-16 Korea 2011 B-Boy Masters Championship, the Urban Street Arts Festival will also take place throughout Olympic Park. The festivities include R-16 5th Year Anniversary photo exhibition, hip-hop photo exhibition, graffiti art exhibition featuring pieces by locally esteemed artists, an Asian graffiti competition, and an exclusive opportunity to experience graffiti culture firsthand. In addition, b-boy ciphers that encourage crowd participation, hip-hop street market, and various event booths will also be available.
R-16 Korea 2011 tickets can be purchased through Interpark. Both Seat S and Standing cost KRW 20,000, while Seat A costs KRW 10,000.

chadchad of the day 4.0
striped shirt / vintage Ralph Lauren
magenta shorts / reformed UNIQLO
sky blue socks / Topman
black leather gladiator sandals / Giordano
black sunglasses / Asos
robot tote bag / Marc Cain
braided leather bracelet / Marc Cain
We finally had a few sunny days here in London so you can imagine the entire city was outdoors as much as possible sunbathing and eating their lunches in many of the cities lush green spaces. On my way to Hyde Park yesterday I passed this bronze horse head statue located in the roundabout next to Marble Arch which balances precariously on it's nose. It was designed by English artist Nic Fiddian-Green and has since become my favorite piece of public art that I've come across so far in London.
I was recently sent this adorable robot boy tote bag (which has an amazing hot pink mesh lining!) & braided leather bracelet from German label Marc Cain and I wanted to create an outfit around them. Thanks to Adeline & the team at Marc Cain for being so generous! Here are a few pieces from their spring/summer 2011 collection that I found particularly charming:
I definitely wanted something bright to go along with the robot bag so I used the bold magenta color of my UNIQLO shorts as a starting point. They were originally a pair of trousers that were on sale for W5000 in Korea, so I bought two pairs and had one tailored into shorts. They matched perfectly with Burger's XL vintage Ralph Lauren striped shirt and these baby blue socks from Topman which I bought in a pack with 4 other pastel colors, perfect for adding a bit of summer into any outfit.

chadchad of the day 3.9
blue & magenta plaid blazer / Topman
pinstriped denim Mandarin collar shirt / vintage
magenta trousers / UNIQLO
eggplant leather bag / VanHart Homme
eggplant patent leather loafers / Zara
sky blue socks / from Japan
I'm officially a Harrod's department store employee now. I was hired on for temporary retail sales for the duration of the summer sale season which is on now until July 10th. My first day on the shop floor was on Friday and luckily enough I was chosen to work in the Men's Lab, which is a new section in menswear location on the lower ground floor. It created last December "with a young, fashion-conscious male in mind, fusing urban style with a polished aesthetic to create a trend-led offering like never before." Which means I don't have to wear a black or grey suit and tie to work everyday like most of the other members of staff do and I can still be creative with my outfit choices.
I decided to base my outfit around this leather VanHart Homme bag (even though I wouldn't be wearing it on the sales floor of course) which was a gift from Korean designer Jung Du Young / 정두영 for helping him with a presentation he did before his FW 2011/12 show during Seoul Collection. The bag along with the bright magenta colored trousers from UNIQLO perfectly brought out the colors of the plaid blazer I borrowed from Burger's closet which I wore over a vintage denim shirt. The pinstripes and the Mandarine collar of this shirt add a pleasant contract to the plaid.
To keep with the quirky look of the jacket, I wanted to wear a pair of socks that really popped in both color & pattern. I found these 'big fish' socks a while back on one of my visa runs to Fukuoka, Japan. The separated big toe is so you can wear them with wooden sandals. I love the Japanese sun over Mount Fuji in the background behind the red fish, but unfortunately their days are probably numbered and will probably fall apart after one or two more wears.

chadchad of the day 3.8
black jumpsuit / General Idea
black cuff / MVIO
black boots / military
gold & crystal earring / Line or Circle
toy pony shoulders / handmade
Here's what I ended up wearing to Boy George's birthday. I didn't even find out I was going until an hour before hand, so I stole the arse ends of the two toy pony's Burger used on his hat (previous post) then made two slits in the sides to slide elastic waistband through. I then hand sewed this (easily unstitched the day after) to the shoulders of my jumpsuit from General Idea by Korean designer Choi Bum Suk. They were amazing when I danced and the pony tails were all over the place when Beyonce's 'Run the World' came on, a perfect song to dance to with power shoulders. Yep!
The black leather cuff was part of the impeccably designed invitation sent out by Korean designer Han Sang Hyuk for MVIO's spring/summer 2011 collection.
The gold & crystal earring was a gift from Korean designer Park Jong Chul from his label Line or Circle's FW 2010 collection. I decided to change it up a bit and give it a pony tail of it's own by adding a chunk of hair from the wig Burger attached to his toy pony hat.

burger kim of the day 0.8
black shirt / H&M
black shorts / cutoff Dr. Denim
black boots / Dr. Martens
toy pony hat / handmade
neck cuff thing / vintage
horse hair sporran / vintage
As you can see, the outfit Burger wore to Boy George's 50th birthday bash was effing perfection. He made a similar hat with a Barbie head & oversized doll arms last year and had been saving these two toy pony's for a special occasion. I guess Boy George's 50th is special enough, no?
The rear shot of the hat gives you the full effect of the wig which was attached to the upper back of the hat using nails. He sawed the two pony's in half and attached them to either side using a drill, then added gold chain for more detail. Quite heavy but a complete work of art.
This hairy belt thing is called a sporran and is traditionally worn over a Scottish kilt. It complements the blonde pony hair & wig perfectly and is also a great place to store your wallet & keys.

boy george turns 50!
WE MET BOY GEORGE! Holy biggest non-Korean celeb encounter of my life! I used to dance around the living room when I was like 5 years old to Karma Chameleon on my mom's record player. Burger knew some kids who knew Boy George who wanted more people to make wild shit to wear to his 50th birthday party so of course Burger obliged. He ended up making the best hat of the night out of two toy ponies, a big white safari style hat & a long blonde wig. It was so amazing that Boy George came up and complemented him on it - good job B! I got a snap of him in there but was too shy to be all 'Can I take my photo with you Mr. George?' Oh well, maybe next time. Outfits of the day coming soon for both Burger and myself to highlight the pony clothes, but for now enjoy the party pics! Also here's a link to an article my friend posted about the crowd at his party which is quite spot on & hilarious.
