chadchad of the day 4.3

keys

stripes & fleur de lis t-shirt / Kokon to Zai (KTZ)
cross patterned denim / W Dress Room
gladiator sandals / Giordano
antique key necklace / Burger & Fries
silver bear & wolf ring / no brand

I may or may not have gone to the KTZ store in Soho not long after Burger came home with his heart patterned shirt to see what deals I could find. Lucky enough I found this bold t-shirt, half stripes half fleur de lis pattern and it totally made my day. I matched it with my cross patterned skinny jeans from W Dress Room by Korean designer CHOI BUM SUK and my gladiator sandals I bought a few seasons back, making sure I fastened the buckles over the ankles of the tight denim.

I wore these wolf & bear rings of Burgers on my pinkie as well as this necklace I crafted out of a few identical antique keys which I am in love with. It is also featured on our new official boutique on ASOS Marketplace called Burger & Fries. Make sure to check out the dozens of one of a kind handmade accessories, reformed vintage goods and thrifted treasures we have listed up on the site - I'll be updating more about our boutique soon!

chadchad of the day 3.8

black jumpsuit / General Idea
black cuff / MVIO
black boots / military
gold & crystal earring / Line or Circle
toy pony shoulders / handmade

Here's what I ended up wearing to Boy George's birthday. I didn't even find out I was going until an hour before hand, so I stole the arse ends of the two toy pony's Burger used on his hat (previous post) then made two slits in the sides to slide elastic waistband through. I then hand sewed this (easily unstitched the day after) to the shoulders of my jumpsuit from General Idea by Korean designer Choi Bum Suk. They were amazing when I danced and the pony tails were all over the place when Beyonce's 'Run the World' came on, a perfect song to dance to with power shoulders. Yep!

The black leather cuff was part of the impeccably designed invitation sent out by Korean designer Han Sang Hyuk for MVIO's spring/summer 2011 collection.

IMG_0135
The gold & crystal earring was a gift from Korean designer Park Jong Chul from his label Line or Circle's FW 2010 collection.  I decided to change it up a bit and give it a pony tail of it's own by adding a chunk of hair from the wig Burger attached to his toy pony hat.

general idea fw 2011/12 by choi bum suk

general-idea-fw-1112
I was a big fan of General Idea this season. I loved the sporty mix & match of bright active gear in red, navy, mustard & green. The leggings in nordic patterns or a quirky puffy jacket type material were fun & paired well with the hiking boots or colorful wingtip boots. The camouflage was also playful & almost cartoon-like in bright yellow & even pink. And how dashing did all the models look walking out of the tent at the entrance of the runway in those floppy felt hats? Very, if you asked me.

light grey hoodie / H&M
charcoal grey tank top / H&M
white lightning bolt patterned denim / W. Dress Room
black sneakers / Converse

IMG_0088
Last Thursday I stopped by the General Idea showroom with my friend Kyuhee for a collaboration party & W. Dress Room sale. General Idea is a Korean menswear brand designed by Bum Suk Choi / 최범석 and W. Dress Room is his less expensive, faster produced sister brand that carries both men's & women's clothing. I picked up these lightning bolt skinny jeans for only W10,000! ($10 US). I thought they might be a bit small as the sizing was just a vague 'large' so I had originally intended to reform them in some way, but fortunately they fit like a glove.

I bought the hood and tank top on Friday at H&M after model auditions for Seoul Fashion Week. A little shopping usually de-stresses me. The tank was actually found in the women's section, I just bought the biggest size available. If you aren't too shy the ladies section at H&M is worth checking out, they often have some pretty rad tanks that are very unisex and quite long.

The General Idea collaboration was called 'Teardrops, be Waterdrops'. Four Korean artists including my friends Dabin and Novo, were asked to design T-shirts with proceeds going to help children in Africa. For more information about the collaboration and to see some photos from the party (some of which I borrowed for this blog), check out Korean street snap photographer Paparazzo's website HERE.

black leather motorcyle jacket / vintage from Aprogod
white & black graphic hoodie / General Idea
grey sweater / no brand
chess piece necklace / A-Land
acid wash denim / April 77
black leather ankle boots / Aldo
red, black & white wall hanging / Marimekko

/ You will see me in this motorcyle jacket a lot. It's almost like my uniform. I found it at my friend/형 Shiggy's vintage shop in it's new location in Hyehwa-Dong called Aprogod for only W30,000. I met Shiggy almost 3 years ago when he first moved to Seoul from Pusan in his first shop located near the playground in Hongdae. My friends at the time and I would often go there on weekends to chat, sift through his collection and people watch from his prime 2nd floor location on all the kids wandering the streets before heading to a club for the night. I miss that spot and definitely don't meet up with him as often as I would like. Aprogod is also one of the sponsors of the Eco Jamboree flea market at N Seoul tower - so you can see him in his booth every month there.

The wall hanging behind me is a vintage Marimekko print that I found in my grandmothers basement. It's a little water stained but I love the atmosphere it added when I hung it on the wall of my bedroom.

The graphic patterned hoodie is a new favorite of mine as well. I also found it at the Gangnam Fashion festival flea market last month for a very nicely reduced price of W40,000. General Idea is made by Korean designer Choi Bumsuk, who I had a chance to walk for a few times in the summer of 2009. Here are links to all of his runway shows that I have covered over the past couple years:

I found the chess piece necklace last week at A-Land in Myeongdong (the best A-Land out of 4 in Seoul). It had a few extra dangly things that I took off and I also added about a foot of gold chain to lengthen it. The red double decker bus pin always confused me because it says 'New York Tour' rather than anything to due with London. I picked that up for W1,000 at Dongmyo flea market. I glued a pin to the back of my Star Wars Bearbrick, which was given to me by another 형 Uji who is also one of my hairdressers. He is always impeccably dressed and has a street fashion site called Yuji.kr. /

camel trench coat / vintage Christian Dior (reformed)
denim shirt / W Dress Room
silk scarf / BON
black denim / no brand
brown socks / UNIQLO
burgundy loafers / Zara

/ There's nothing more perfect to wear on a sunny, crisp fall day than a classic trench coat. I picked this one up at Jamie & Bell vintage in Apgujeong just off Rodeo Street. It's a tiny little shop stocked full of amazing vintage from US & Europe and their jewelry and accessories are frequently used in editorials in all the biggest Korean fashion magazines from Vogue to Nylon to Bazaar. So you can imagine the prices. I don't usually splurge on clothes, actually I'm quite cheap. But this was so classic I knew I could have it for the rest of my life and cooly dropped the W300,000 for it. However soon after I bought it I had a bit of buyer's remorse - I wasn't wearing it often enough because it was a little too chunky and a little too long. To fix that, I took it to a local tailor (such cheap tailoring in Korea) to have it taken in slightly in the waist as well as to shorten the front panels, creating longer tails in the back. I loved the outcome - much more dramatic, yet still retaining it's classic appeal.

I bought the denim shirt with white buttons at the Gangnam Fashion Festival flea market held in October on Garosugil in Sinsa for only W10,000. It was made by W Dress Room, the sister brand of Choi Bumsuk's General Idea brand, and much better priced. My friend got the adorable loli-pop patterned scarf as a gift when he watched me walk in the "Playground" themed BON SS11 show by designer Lee Jung Jae at Seoul Collection.  /

general idea ss11 by bumsuk choi

designer Bumsuk Choi / 최범석 / www.generalidea.co.kr

/ This years General Idea show, also shown in New York, opened with new shapes for casual basics in khakis and whites with sky blue and bold red used as accents.  It sort of had a country, quiet feel and then slowly out of nowhere a graphic type-face pattern appeared in white, black or beige, dominating the collection along with Jackson Pollock-like paint splashes.  These bold patterns and paint splashes were used all over suit jackets and oversized trenches, raincoats and bags creating a very dramatic finale. However I found the relationship between the opening half and the closing half to be way too disconnected and it ended up feeling like two different collections.  The first soft, casual & polite and the other aggressive, in your face & dramatic.  /
