chadchad of the day 3.1

riding-boots
blue shirt / vintage
white denim / PLAC jeans
eggplant suede riding boots / VanHart Homme
dinosaur necklace / handmade

IMG_0089
I was given these amazing eggplant suede riding boots by VanHart Homme designer Duyoung Jung / 정두영 after helping him with a presentation he made to his company and walking in his FW 2011/12 show during Seoul Collection. (backstage photo update from that show coming soon!) He also gave me a gorgeous deep purple leather bag which I will save for an upcoming look of the day. I had been wanting riding boots for awhile now but could never find quite the right look or the right size, but lucky enough these fit perfectly.

I would probably wear the boots more often with dark clothes for a fall/winter look, but since spring has finally arrived I wanted to lighten things up a bit by pairing them with some crisp white jeans and a bright colored top. I found this baby blue one at Dongmyo flea market for only $3US.

I added the dinosaur necklace for an extra splash of color then went down to Banpo Park along the Han River to take the photos in front of these crazy floating islands being built next to the Banpo Bridge. I'm not sure exactly what the three glass dome-like buildings will be used for but each of the three islands will be linked to the shore by trails. It's going to be a huge tourist spot and I'm sad I won't see the finished outcome.

My look of the day today was styled around this great suede jacket I bought at Dongmyo flea market for W3,000 ($3 US). I loved the orange silk lining and I knew immediately that I wanted to add tassels to it. I bought the black suede tassel from Dongdaemun fabric market for W2,000/meter and hand stitched it to the jacket. This took a few hours actually, but if I used a sewing machine I would have had to rip apart the lining and I am not near skilled enough to handle that. I was so happy with the result - it looks very authentic - and I'm totally going to try to find some more old jackets to reform and sell.

The black and white tee is from oaknyc.com which has an amazing box shape the drapes the body very flatteringly. And I love how Hamburglar the prison stripes are.

The tights are just shredded women's panty hose which I cut the feet off and layered under a pair of cutoff shorts. Definitely not a warm enough look for the current weather conditions in Seoul but very much okay come spring. I also found these glasses at Dongmyo flea market and I think I paid about W2,000 for them.

chadchad of the day 1.1

denim shirt / vintage from A-Land
white tank / H&M
black hat / H&M
accordion silk scarf / vintage
thin brown belt / no brand
black waxed denim / 'Unknown'
red & navy nordic patterned leg warmers / vintage
brown tassled loafers / vintage

IMG_0005
This is the outfit I wore to the closing party for Design Seoul 2010 at the White House in Hannam-dong last night. I'll be posting pictures from the event later tonight. Again, my love for vintage shows through in this outfit. The accordion scarf is an another amazing find from Dongmyo vintage market, as are the nordic leg warmers. I love the vibrant green matched with red, gold & olive green on the equestrian patterned scarf. There is a floral motif in the center surrounded by ornate illustrations of horse riding saddles.

IMG_0057
The leg warmers can be worn inside your shoes but with these loafers, which I randomly found in a tiny vintage shop on Jeju island, I decided to wear them over the heel. I was lucky to find good quality tassled loafers in my size and bought them without question. Shoe shopping for size 12 feet is hard enough in Korea, let alone looking for anything that size in vintage.

chadchad of the day 0.5

camel knit vest / vintage
long beige transparent tee / Unplugged
fox fur stole / vintage
gold brooch / vintage
white denim / Plac Jeans
moccasins / Michele Secchiari

IMG_0015

/ I found this fox fur stole a couple of weeks ago in Dongmyo vintage market, along with the knit vest so I thought I'd put together a very neutral outfit for today's look. It's hard to tell from the photograph but the t-shirt is actually quite long, almost down to my knees. I usually knot it up in the bottom corner to give it an asymmetrical look but sometimes I rock it long as well. The gold brooch was a birthday present from a friend and old roommate who now lives in Toronto. We share a love of vintage, costume jewelry.

IMG_0013

I picked up the Italian leather moccasins at Getoutside Shoes on Queen Street in downtown Toronto (amazing selection) when I visited there for the first time over the summer. A friend of my calls them my 'Lindsay Lohan circa 2008' boots, but they are so comfortable and since I'm Canadian I can just say they are part of my heritage - ha.

IMG_0024

The PLAC white jeans are such an amazing fit and they have this great waxed coating on them. I did one modeling gig for PLAC and was also given a few pairs when I took street fashion pictures for them in August. These white ones were a gift for taking party photos at a PLAC sponsored WhiteNoize party at Club Answer. Here are a few links to some PLAC related entries:

I'm kind of a nerd for antiques as you can tell from my living room and I love elaborate frames - I found the 3-D Jesus on the street by my house actually and some of the other artwork was done by myself or my friends. These two photographs are vintage street fashion from the late 40's/early 50's. They are my paternal grandparents Noni & Peter Burton and the photographs were taken in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. My grandfather died in 1997 but my Nani Noni is still around and I spend as much time with her as I can each summer when I go home. Both were hero's of mine throughout my lifetime for their kindness, their love and even for their fashion. Grandpa always wore some sort of a hat which I copied a lot growing up, and Nan was always wearing neutrals with bright autumn yellows, oranges & reds to match her fiery red hair. These photographs mean a lot to me and they were definitely part of my inspiration for starting this blog.

blue Donald Duck sweater / vintage Disney
denim shirt / vintage from A-land
black denim / no brand
green hat with pom poms / no brand
blue sneakers / Adidas
yellow socks / UNIQLO
acid wash backpack / vintage

/ I opted for something warm and cozy today since I was going to be shooting outside for my roommates fashion portfolio (coming soon) up the hill at Ruf XXX near the Hyatt Hotel, which is also where I had my XXX birthday party back in September. I heart this place so much. The main floor is the bar with pingpong table, lots of cozy, patterned blankets and an outdoor fire pit. The second floor is a performance space and the rooftop has lots more seating with an amazing view of N Seoul Tower and the city.

I was so happy when I found my backpack at Gwangjang Market / 광장시장 in Jongno 5-Ga a few months ago as I had been searching all over Seoul for the perfect backpack with the right amount of pockets. Gwangjang Market is a great place to find anything vintage, but can be somewhat overwhelming due to the sheer amount of clothing and the cramped space. I got the Adidas sneakers as a gift after being one of the party models for Adidas's 60th Anniversary party last winter and I like how they contrast with the mustard yellow socks, which also match Donald's beak ;)  The hat was just a street find from Garosugil.

The Donald sweater was one of many amazing finds at my favorite place to shop in Seoul - Dongmyo Flea Market / 돟묘시장 on line 6. I go there weekly to scour through the piles of vintage clothes usually sold for only W1000 to W2000 each ($1~2 US). You can find great stuff for your house too. I bought the area rug, the candlesticks and every article of clothing in the picture below from Dongmyo.
