This was my outfit for day 1 of the first ever London Collections: Men.  HUGE thanks to  Ozwald Boateng for letting me borrow this sharp short suit from their SS12 collection - it fit me like a glove!  I loved the squared off shape of the collar and I decided to decorate the little holes with a pair of earrings in the shape of a spade and a club.  (photo by Kirstin Sinclair from www.elleuk.com)

I wore the suit with a few Korean accessories including a pair of my favorite sunglasses from Resurrection by Juyoung Lee and these perfect patent leather ribbon sandals from ALANI by Jaehwan Kim.  I don't find too many occasions to wear them but whenever I do I get loads of compliments.

Recognize anyone?  If you don't blink you can see myself and Filippo, my fashion editor from 1883 Magazine for a brief second. :)

want 1.2: ivan curia nunes

ivan-curia-nunes-graduation-collection-1-600x444
I've been researching some fresh, young designers for an upcoming menswear shoot that I'm assisting on for 1883 Magazine and I came upon recent Central Saint Martins graduate Ivan Curia Nunes. I was interested in & excited by a lot of the other graduates runway debuts but in the end Nunes mainly linen collection was the stand out star and I WANT it all. The muted color palette and exaggerated silhouettes were slightly reminiscent of some of my favorite young Korean menswear designers like Groundwave, Alani and Irony Porn(o). And just how effortlessly cool are those sunglasses?

ALANI 12ss-1

Zig Zag Chair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld
Inspiration for the ALANI SS12 menswear collection by Korean designer Jae Hwan Kim / 김재환 took shape in the form of a chair. Not just any chair mind you, but one known famously as the Zig Zag Chair by German industrial designer Gerrit Thomas Reitveld, one of the principle members of the Dutch artistic movement De Stijl. This zig-zag shape was echoed in color blocked suits and paneled shirts. Coated denim was sharply tailored to appear crisp yet comfortable. Another smart and very wearable collection.

Seoul's 10 Soul

vet7jd
The South Korean government has been pushing Seoul to become one of the world's major fashion cities and after a successful showing of Korean designers at Concept Korea during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York last fall, they recently debuted in Singapore at Seoul's 10 Soul. Take a look at this video and tell me your aren't psyched by what Seoul has to offer! (Also keep your eyes peeled for me on the catwalk in the ALANI & Jehee Sheen segments of the video as these were two of the shows I walked in during Seoul Fashion Week FW11).

Featuring 10 of Korea's up and coming fashion designers including ALANI, beyond closet, GENERAL IDEA, GROUNDWAVE, jaehwanlee paris, jardin de chouette, Jehee Sheen, KAAL E.SUKTAE, LEYII and Steve J & Yoni P, the designers each presented 3 'cruise' inspired outfits.  Check out Kokokoreano's coverage of the event HERE.

Also thanks to both Kokokoreanoa leading entertainment & fashion site which covers South Korean celebrities, and blogger asiaRasia of whutderrfakqizvat for giving me a heads up & emailing a scan of an interview about me that was featured in the 'Dynamic Seoul: All about Seoul Fashion' handout that was given to everyone who attended the Seoul's 10 Soul performance.  It was actually a translated & shortened version of the same interview I did for Harper's Bazaar in September of last year. I love that they included me in it!

alani fw 2011/12 by kim jae hwan

alani-fw11
A Central Saint Martins graduate, Korean designer Jae Hwan Kim once again presented a very minimal collection for Alani under the theme 'Yves Klein Monochrome'.  Clean lines in black & grey with solid blocks of intense color inspired by the monochrome paintings of French artist Yves Klein.  A royal, ultramarine blue which Klein made famous as 'International Klein Blue' was the standout color in a few key pieces such as the long, oversized jacket with hidden buttons that I got to wear as the final outfit.  The patent leather shoes were a highlight of the show as were the much talked about, crisp cornered, square legged pants - which you can see more of HERE in Alani's 'Sweatshirt Project' lookbook.
