kimseoryong fw 2011/12

Long time Seoul Collection designer Kimseoryong didn't stray far from his signature neutral tones & loose fitting suits this season, but that's not a bad thing. He continues to make very wearable suits that at times seem almost one size too big but which have such pleasant movement and softness to them when seen coming down the runway. Of course there were a lot of browns & olive greens, even a deep midnight blue tuxedo style suit with a black lapel found in this collection. But the pop out colors that really stayed in my mind were a bright orange & a powdery blue, especially when found in thick woolen knits.

'Today's Blog' by Arirang TV: Korean Model Line

I finally got my hands on the segment I shot for Arirang TV called Today's Blog.   The show highlights foreigners living in Seoul who write blogs about life in Korea - showcasing anything from drinking soju to the cherry blossom festival to Seoul's nightlife.  We filmed in December on the day Korean designer Kim Seoryong / 김서룡 was debuting his SS11 collection:


It's so awkward hearing your own voice on television - I'm soooo not cut out to be any sort of TV host that's for sure and I really wish I would have gotten that mop of hair trimmed before filming.  But I was happy with the editing (other than the opening scene where they filmed me from below, that's never a good angle!) and I liked that they included a lot of the backstage shots I had taken during filming.  All in all it was a great experience and since Arirang is broadcast around the world in over 188 countries, I hope this segment helps boost the global awareness of Korean men's fashion.

kimseoryong homme ss11

Last Friday Arirang TV filmed an interview about my blog and followed me around to see what a 'normal blogging day' was like for me. Fortunately that same day there was a runway presentation by Korean designer Seoryong Kim who would be debuting his Kimseoryong Homme SS11 collection at the Horim Art Center.

The filming was a little awkward - I'm not amazing in front of a camera. If you ask a specific question, sure I can answer that, but when the producer said something broad like 'men's fashion - talk' I sort of drew a blank.  ha. Hopefully the editing makes me look semi-intelligent. The segment will air over Christmas so as soon as I get my hands on a copy I'll post it here.


I got to spend the afternoon watching the rehearsals and hanging out backstage taking pics & interviewing the other models, most of whom I had walked in shows with during Seoul Collection. Then I got a front row seat to view the very neutral colored collection. I was right at a corner so my position was a little awkward for taking quality runway pics, but there are a few interestingly blurred action shots. The show was classic Kimseoryong - broad shouldered suits with wide lapeled jackets and very wide-legged, flowing trousers with a few pinstriped looks thrown in as well. The hits of sky blue & coral were great and I loved the almost transparent tee's and the animal print loafers.
